Following increasing evidence in from scientific research, and triggered by community concern, Healthy Cities Illawarra engaged in a project to raise awareness and distribute information on the hazards associated with indoor air quality.
Australians spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, so the potential for indoor air pollutants to affect our health and wellbeing is high. Additionally, many of us don't realise the variety and number of indoor air pollutants.
Health Cities Illawarra developed a brochure outlining the sources and types of indoor air pollutants, and their potential health effects. The brochure focuses on children, as this is the age group most likely to be seriously affected.
We also held a public seminar with expert speakers from the University of Wollongong and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
